Gualterus Diaconus, the ancestor of the family of De Hastings, lords of the barony of Hastings, held a knight's fee in AVikes at the making of Domesday. Ellis, Introd. 1. 42 L AVikes, AVyke, Wykes, AVix, Wickcs, &c., seem to be mere orthographical variations.
