The Hocking surname in historical dictionaries

Patronymica Britannica (1860)

HOCKING. The Hokiugs, according to Ferguson, were a Frisian people, and derived their name from one Hoce, mentioned in the poem of Beowulf. Mr. Kemltle (Archffiolog. Jouru.) observes that Hoce is a " mythical personage, probably the hevos ejwnymiisofthe Frisian tribe, the founder of the Hocings, and a progenitor of the imperial race of Charlemagne."
