FOOT. FOOTE. Probably from residence near the ' foot' of a mountain. This surname was hereditary from the time of the Conqueror. Among the undertenants of Domesday we have an Ei'uui Fot in Clieshire, and a Godwin Fot in Kent. The descendants of the latter gave the prefix to Foot's Cray. Fot is the common spelling in H.R.
