I will hazard a conjecture that it is a corruption of Fontenelle, now St. Wandrillesur-Seine, in Normandy, an ancient barony, and the site of a famous monastery, near Caudel)ec. The corruption may have taken place thus : — Fontenelle, Fonuell, Funnell.
